Summer Tryout Results

We had a very competitive tryout for our 2026 summer teams this week and the results will be posted to this website after school on May 7th. We take a lot into consideration when selecting teams. It is not necessarily the best player all the time. Yes, skill is very important but we also take behavior, the classroom, work ethic, basketball IQ, and how each player represents our program into the process. As well as filling each roster with the right amount of guards/bigs. Unfortunately, we have to make tough decisions and every year we cut deserving/good basketball players. Whether or not your son makes a summer team, we highly encourage them to participate in our summer lifting program and our individual skill sessions throughout June and July. There are no guarantees in our program. Meaning, if you made a team previously it does not guarantee you a spot on the next season’s team and if you didn’t make a team you have an equal chance as anyone else to make a team the following season. Our hope is that summer tryouts can be used as motivation for those who don’t make a summer team and those kids go and work hard to get better in hopes of making a team next winter. We hate cutting kids and wish we could keep everyone. We feel for those who don’t make a team and please understand it is never personal. We just have to make decisions based on what we think is best for our program.

**I know everyone has busy schedules but please make it to tryouts even if it is for one day only. For incoming 9th graders, please understand there are very few conflicts if your son plays multiple sports. I am a multi-sport advocate and believe our student athletes should be playing multiple sports. All we ask is that the player communicates with their coach when a conflict arises.

Why We Coach:

We Coach because we love the game of basketball and love the relationships we get to build with our players. We believe our players can learn important life lessons through being a part of a team and athletics.

Our Mission:

The Rock Canyon High School Boys Basketball Program strives to develop our players and managers into successful people on and off the court. We hope to accomplish this by focusing on the following traits: Work Ethic, Leadership, Selflessness, Integrity, Character, and Resiliency. We want our players to have a great experience in our program and learn to be great people.

Our Program Guarantees

  1. We will love our players.
  2. We will do what is best for the program.

Communication Process

When you have a concern/complaint the process below needs to be followed:

  1. The player and coach must communicate first. Self-Advocate.
  2. The parent can contact their level coach to schedule a meeting.

– Meetings between parents and coaches will be scheduled after practices and must include the parent, two coaches and the player.

  • 24 hour rule – Coaches will respond to any questions or concerns within 24 hours. If the issue cannot be solved, a meeting with Coach Grams the Coaching Staff, Parents and Player will be scheduled.

Player Expectations

  • Be a good representation of our program on and off the court
  • Work hard in the classroom
  • Be a gentleman- have good manners
  • Be on time to practice and games
  •  Communicate conflicts… missed practices = missed game time
  • Be SELFLESS; team and program should come first
  • Play for something bigger than yourself
  • Give great effort
  • Be humble
  • Have great body language
  • Be nice!

Parent Expectations

  • Support your son, the team, and the program
  • Do not yell at the refs
  • Let the Coach coach; you may not agree with everything and that’s okay
  • Do not coach your kid from the stands
  • Be mindful of dinner table conversations – negative comments usually impact our players in a negative way
  • Remember your actions represent our program

Thanksgiving and Winter Break
We understand family comes first and want families to be together but it is an expectation that players are at every practice over Thanksgiving break and Winter Break. In our program, missed practices equals missed game time. Please understand it is the players responsibility to communicate any missed practice/scrimmages. There will still be consequences even with proper communication. Below you will find our schedule for the two breaks.

Thanksgiving Break we will practice everyday except Thanksgiving Day. We also have a scrimmage on Wednesday, November 26 in the morning.

Winter Break Varsity and JV will be off December 23-28.   Sophomore and Freshmen will be off December 20-28. Practices will resume on December 29.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
